Research within the Tourism, Hospitality and Events Department at the University of Sunderland is underpinned by a critical approach that takes into account the experiential dimension of tourism, hospitality and events as well as the varied geographical contexts in which these take place. The department produces thought provoking research that addresses the changing role of tourism, hospitality and events in contemporary societies.
We nurture a vibrant research culture that supports new initiatives and fosters innovation. Our research culture includes a series of seminars which offer the chance to hear scholars from the Department, our PhD students and visiting scholars from the UK and overseas deliver cutting edge research. We work as a team and collaboratively with key internal and external stakeholders to develop interdisciplinary research that is relevant, academically rigorous and which maximises impact. Our work supports teaching with the development of a research active curriculum that enhances the learning experience of both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
